Mary McAleese, Former President of Ireland
The real deep investment that she made in me as a human being only revealed itself to me over a lifetime.
Mary McAleese served as Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College for close to a decade. She then became director and the first pro-vice-chancellor of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen's University. McAleese was first elected President of Ireland in 1997, and was re-elected unopposed for a second term in office in 2004. McAleese used her time in office to address issues concerning justice, social equality, social inclusion, and to promote anti-sectarianism and reconciliation.
