Today, we are delighted to announce the members of our review panel for Teachers Inspire, who have the difficult task of choosing the four most inspiring teachers from all those stories we’ve received.

It’s back-to-school time, and the Teachers Inspire Ireland initiative is reaching its most exciting phase: in the coming weeks, we will reveal the 20 teachers from across Ireland who have been shortlisted in recognition of their huge impact on their students and wider communities. Four of these teachers – one from each province – will then receive Desmond Awards at our gala event on 4th October.

In the meantime, we’re busy reviewing the 400-plus stories that you shared with us about your inspiring teachers.

Today, we are delighted to announce the members of our review panel for Teachers Inspire, who have the difficult task of choosing the four most inspiring teachers from all those stories we’ve received.

We are honoured that former President of Ireland, Dr. Mary McAleese, has agreed to serve as Chair of the review panel for Teachers Inspire. A supporter of this project from the outset, you can watch Dr. McAleese speaking about her own inspiring teacher here.

Joining Dr. McAleese on our review panel are:

  • Professor Brian MacCraith, President of DCU
  • Ray D’Arcy, radio and television presenter
  • Christine Farrell, President of DCU Students’ Union
  • Dr. Anne Looney, Executive Dean, Institute of Education, DCU
  • Sheila Nunan, former General Secretary of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation
  • Pat O’Doherty, Chief Executive, ESB
  • Ruairí Quinn, former Minister for Education and Skills

We are delighted that such experienced and accomplished individuals are committing their time to reviewing the entries received by Teachers Inspire. It is testament to the huge value placed on teachers by people right across Ireland.
